Infrastructure or equipment
The University of Twente has developed experimental equipment sets consisting of programmable transmitter-antenna hybrids, antenna systems and receivers, designed for empirical research and polarimetric characterization of oblique refraction paths through the ionosphere.
These reconfigurable systems have been and will continue to be deployed in empirical field research on ionospheric radio wave propagation in The Netherlands and Spain, o.a. in relation to space weather events such as solar X-ray flares.
They can also be adapted to demonstrate the relationship between space weather phenomena and radiocommunication via oblique ionospheric reflection, such as is used in humanitarian, disaster relief and military communications, long-distance communications for aeronautical transport, such as transatlantic flight.
