Dr Jaroslav Chum
Dr. Jaroslav Chum graduated from the Czech Technical University (CTU) in 1989. In 2004 he received PhD degree in Plasma Physics at CTU. He works at IAP CAS since 1994, since 2013 as senior scientist, since 2019 he is a deputy head of the Department of Ionosphere and Aeronomy. Dr J. Chum is a member of the Institute Board since 2012. He was involved in designing satellite subsystems and ground based measurements. Since 2001, J. Chum has been involved in space plasma physics investigations with a focus on wave propagation in the Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere. He was involved in investigations of the whistler waves, chorus emissions in the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Recently, he has mainly focused on propagation of GWs and infrasound in the ionosphere and upper atmosphere using the multi-point Continuous Doppler shift Sounding System (CDSS) measurements. J. Chum is author or co-author of 65 articles in international refereed journals. He is also a member of the council for Science popularization at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He serves as referee for JGR-Space physics, J. Atmos. Sol. Terr. Phys., Radio Science, Advances in Space Res. and other journals.
In PITHIA-NRF contributes in WP1, WP2, WP6 and WP7 and supports the operations in the IAP node (particularly national and international CDSS and electric field measurements) for the TNA activities with an allocation of 30% of full-time employment.
