Dr Jürgen Matzka
Jürgen Matzka is group leader at GFZ and head of the Geomagnetic Observatory Niemegk since 2014. Before, he was a senior scientist and deputy head of Geomagnetism at DTU Space and received his PhD from University Munich in 2001. He is in charge of producing the internationally recognized Kp index of geomagnetic activity. The main research areas are observational geomagnetism, geomagnetic ground observations and analysis with a focus on the auroral and equatorial electrojet as well as geomagnetic indices with a focus on Kp-like indices. He is a co-author of more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
