Alexandre Winant

Alexandre Winant is a PhD student who is hired by BIRA-IASB since September 2022. He obtained his master in Physics at the Université Catholique de Louvain in June 2022, presenting a master thesis about the dynamics of the radiation belts observed by the Energetic Particle Telescope with Prof. Viviane Pierrard as promoter. For his PhD, he is working on the ionization of the terrestrial atmosphere in the solar wind team of BIRA-IASB with Viviane Pierrard and Hugues Goosse as co-supervisors. He studies the effects of cosmic rays and energetic particles on the terrestrial atmosphere using GEANT4 simulations.

In the framework of the PITHIA-NRF project, he will work on the implementation of the plasmasphere model and Cluster data on the PITHIA-NRF platform and contribute to the communication and the other BIRA-IASB tasks. He will devoted 50% of his time to the PITHIA-NRF project.
