Description

The University of Westminster was established in 1838 as the UK's first polytechnic institution, with the aim to educate the working people of London. Today the University continues to build on this reputation, helping students from a variety of backgrounds to realise their full potential. The University has over 19,000 students from almost 170 different nationalities and collaborates with almost 200 different partners from business and industry. The University of Westminster will be represented in the project by the Research Centre for Parallel Computing (CPC). The CPC team has specific expertise in cloud-based technologies, especially in science gateways applied to accessing cloud and high performance computing resources, and in the area of automatically deploying and managing the execution of cloud-based scientific and business applications. The CPC has participated in and led several large European projects in this area during the past ten years with focus on scalable cloud computing solutions, application level cloud orchestration and its utilisation by research, business and industry. The CPC coordinated the FP7 CloudSME (Cloud–based Simulation platform for Manufacturing and Engineering) project between 2013 and 2016 working with a large number of SMEs from the manufacturing sector, and most recently it led the H2020 COLA (Cloud Orchestration at the Level of Application) project that created scalable cloud solutions for SMEs and public sector organisations. Currently the CPC leads the ASCLEPIOS (secure cloud applications for healthcare) H2020 project and also contributes to the H2020 CloudiFacturing (cloud-based solutions for manufacturing SMEs) project. The CPC team are one of the main developers of the MiCADO open source cloud orchestration solution that supports the automated deployment and flexible, policy driven auto-scaling of cloud applications.
